NELFUND Assures Students That The Ongoing ASUU Strike Will Not Disrupt The Loan Scheme

The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, has assured students that the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will not disrupt the operations of the student loan scheme. Sawyerr emphasized that NELFUND's role is to make higher education more accessible to Nigerian students, and the strike should not derail this goal.

Sawyerr explained that the student loan scheme is structured to remain stable despite temporary challenges within the education system. He assured students that the loan programme remains secure and active, and NELFUND is working closely with the Ministry of Education to ensure learning continues smoothly.

Sawyerr called for calm and cooperation among students, reiterating that NELFUND was created to address key issues in the education sector, including financial challenges faced by students. Meanwhile, talks between the Federal Government and ASUU are ongoing, with the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, leading the negotiations. The ASUU President, Dr. Chris Piwuna, has maintained that the union will not be intimidated by the government's "No Work, No Pay" policy and remains committed to its cause.
