NELFUND Takes Student Loan Sensitization to the South East: Visits COOU and Federal Polytechnic, Nekede

On September 5, 2024, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) held a student loan sensitization program at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University and Federal Polytechnic, Nekede. NELFUND's Managing Director, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, emphasized the program's role in overcoming financial barriers to education and urged students to apply for loans.

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) expanded its student loan sensitization efforts to the South East on Thursday, visiting Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University in Anambra State and the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Imo State. The initiative aims to increase awareness and participation in the student loan program across the region.

The events, organized in collaboration with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), were well-received by the leadership of both institutions and drew hundreds of students.

At Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, Managing Director/CEO of NELFUND, emphasized the program's significance in overcoming financial barriers to education. “It is a great honor to be here at this prestigious institution, a beacon of academic excellence in the South East,” he said. “This sensitization program is a crucial step in ensuring that every Nigerian student has access to the financial resources necessary to pursue their educational goals.”

Mr. Sawyerr noted that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, NELFUND has been empowered to extend its reach nationwide, ensuring equitable access to educational funding. He stressed the importance of accurate and timely submission of student data by South East institutions to facilitate smooth loan disbursements.

At the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Mr. Sawyerr reiterated NELFUND’s dedication to equitable loan distribution, ensuring that the South East is not left behind. “We are here to assure you that every Nigerian student, especially in the South East, has a stake in this initiative. It is designed to uplift all students, empowering them to contribute to national development,” he stated.

NELFUND's visit addresses the pressing financial challenges many students face. Sawyerr urged students to apply for the student loan, highlighting the simplified application process designed to ease access. “This is about investing in your future, not just providing loans. The event showcased the strong partnership between NANS and NELFUND, and the leadership of both institutions expressed appreciation for NELFUND’s commitment to supporting education. Mr. Sawyerr, accompanied by Executive Director (Operations) Mr. Mustapha Iyal and other staff members, reaffirmed NELFUND’s dedication to alleviating financial barriers for Nigerian students.
