A Netizen decried the state of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), male hostels after visiting Eni Njoku hostels.

He took to Twitter to express that he accompanied his cousin who had just gotten admission and is set to resume into the University. He tweeted at @LordJustusN “ My cousin is supposed to resume school at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). He paid for Hostel and I went there today to check it out. This is what I saw”, he wrote attaching a video of Eni Njoku hostel.

He further expressed his disappointment at the state of the hostel stating his shock at the sight of the hostel and his disbelief that students learn and live in such a place. “When I asked, they said it's not swine that live there”, he added.

Reacting to this, students of the university and occupants of the hostel took to commenting that the hostel even in that state is the best of the two male hostels in the university further stating that the bathrooms is in a far much worse state. “ I'm a student and a resident of that hostel, and I can tell you, this room is better than many other rooms I know”, a student noted. Another student relayed his experience during his stay in the hostel “My first day in UNN, I could barely breathe as I stepped into Eni Njoku. The room I was assigned had more than 15 boys in it, with dangerously looking electrical connections that looked like they would explode any minute”, he tweeted.

Students expressed that because of the poor state of the hostel, they usually opt to stay off campus after staying in the hostel for a session. “ I studied in UNN and I can tell you for free that more than 80% of guys live off-campus because of boys hostels are a mess. That room you’re seeing might end up having up to 14 guys in it. I usually wondered how they survived those hostels.”, another student noted.

Netizens took to advising him. They expressed that the Student Union Government(SUG) are aware of the state of the hostel yet have not taken any measures towards refurbishing and repairs. They advised him to find a lodge off campus for his cousin. “Get him a comfortable place to stay in Odim or behind flat. They say hostel gives a child character development, but never in this kind of condition”,an X user wrote.
