Newly Elected SSANU Chairman at UNN Pledges Focus on Workers' Welfare

In a resounding victory during the Quadrennial Congress of the Union, Comr Linus Akata has assumed the role of Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) chapter. Akata, who was elected unopposed, has vowed to prioritize workers' welfare during his tenure.

In a resounding victory during the Quadrennial Congress of the Union, Comr Linus Akata has assumed the role of Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) chapter. Akata, who was elected unopposed, has vowed to prioritize workers' welfare during his tenure.

Comr. Akata, in his acceptance speech on Friday, expressed gratitude to the members of UNN-SSANU for the trust they placed in him. He assured them that his administration would make the welfare and interests of workers a top priority over the next four years.

"I am humbled and excited about the confidence members have in me to elect me unopposed as their Chairman," Akata stated during his address.

He further acknowledged the commitment of the team from the SSANU National Secretariat, led by Comr. Ken Njoku, the National Vice-president South East, for ensuring a free and fair election process.

Comr. Akata, the immediate past Treasurer, paid homage to his predecessor, Comr. Paul Erua, under whose leadership he had served and learned valuable lessons about good governance.

Njoku, in his remarks, commended the unity and maturity demonstrated by UNN-SSANU members during the election. He urged other branches of SSANU across the country to emulate UNN's example.

"The new executive elected and inaugurated today should reciprocate this gesture by carrying everybody along as well as making workers' welfare a priority," Njoku emphasized.

In a valedictory remark, Comr. Erua thanked the UNN-SSANU members for their support during his 11-year administration, which included three years as caretaker Chairman and four years each for the first and second tenures.

Erua highlighted some of his achievements, including hosting the SSANU National Delegates Conference, completing payments for the Pharmacy shop building and Filling Station through the Built Operate Transfer (BOT) model, and facilitating the payment of monthly hazard allowances to over 500 members.

- Chairman: Mr. Linus Akata

- Vice Chairman: Mr. Samuel Okoh

- Secretary: Mr. Ifeanyichukwu Ozioko

- Treasurer: Mr. Chukwuma Nwagwu

- Financial Secretary: Mr. Ejike Egwuagu

- Public Relations Officer: Mr. Charles Akan

- Assistant Secretary: Mrs. Blessing Obi

- Ex-Officio: Mr. James Nwachukwu

- Trustee: Mr. Friday Nweke

- Woman Coordinator: Mrs. Mercy Ilechukwu

The new leadership is expected to build on the achievements of the past administration and uphold the values of the association with a renewed focus on workers' welfare.
