In a remarkable achievement for Nigeria’s education and technology sector, Ado Girls Secondary School has earned global recognition after winning the Outstanding Organization Award at the International AI Youth Competition organized by the International AI Youth Education Society.
The victory marks a major milestone for digital and artificial intelligence education in Nigeria, especially for young girls in public secondary schools. It also signals the growing impact of targeted STEM initiatives designed to equip students with future-ready skills in an increasingly technology-driven world.
A Global Competition, A Nigerian Triumph
The competition, which ran between December 2025 and February 2026, attracted student participants from technologically advanced nations including the United States, the United Kingdom, China, and Russia. Against this highly competitive international field, students from Ado Girls Secondary School distinguished themselves with multiple recognitions, ultimately securing the Outstanding Organization Award.
What makes the achievement even more impressive is the fact that the students reportedly attained this level of success just two months after joining the Digital Access Programme — a rapid transformation that highlights the power of structured digital education, mentorship, and access to learning opportunities.
The Digital Access Programme Driving Change
The award-winning effort was made possible through the Digital Access Programme implemented by Tech Quest STEM Academy in partnership with Cummins Inc.. The initiative currently provides 750 students and 10 teachers with foundational and emerging digital skills training, introducing participants to modern technologies including artificial intelligence and digital innovation.
Beyond technical instruction, the programme focuses on creating long-term educational impact through:
- Teacher development and capacity building
- Integration of digital learning into school systems
- Mentorship opportunities for students
- Pathways for advanced learning and innovation
Stakeholders say the initiative is designed not only to prepare students for competitions, but also to position them for future workforce demands shaped by AI and digital transformation.
Recognition from Government and Industry Leaders
The achievement has drawn praise from government officials and industry leaders alike.
The Head of Service of Anambra State, Barr. Ngozi Iwouno Esq mni, commended the students and programme organisers for competing successfully against schools from more technologically advanced countries.
According to her, the accomplishment demonstrates that Nigerian students can excel globally when given access to quality training and opportunities.
Similarly, Corporate Responsibility Leader for Africa and the Middle East at Cummins Inc., Ify Anene, described the success as proof of what becomes possible when girls are equipped with technology, mentorship, and support.
She emphasised that empowering young girls with digital tools can unlock extraordinary outcomes and create lasting community impact.
“A Signal of What Is Possible”
Co-Founder of TechQuest STEM Academy, Charles Emembolu, described the award as more than just a school victory.
“This is not just a win for Ado Girls,” he said. “It is a signal of what is possible at scale.”
He added that with the right infrastructure, curriculum, and support systems, Nigerian students are fully capable of delivering outcomes that meet global standards.
The academy now hopes to expand the programme model to more schools across the country.
Although the award was initially presented virtually, the achievement was later celebrated physically during the school’s Career Fair Day. Students showcased projects and innovative work before school authorities, representatives of Cummins, and members of the TechQuest team. The event highlighted not only the students’ accomplishments, but also the growing role of AI and digital education in shaping the future of learning in Nigeria.
Bridging Nigeria’s Digital Divide
The success of Ado Girls Secondary School reflects a broader national effort to bridge Nigeria’s digital divide and improve gender inclusion in technology.
For years, access to quality digital education has remained uneven, particularly for girls in underserved communities. Programmes like the Digital Access Programme are helping to change that narrative by creating opportunities for young women to participate meaningfully in emerging technologies.
As artificial intelligence continues to reshape industries worldwide, initiatives that equip students with digital competencies are becoming increasingly essential.

For many observers, the victory by Ado Girls Secondary School is more than an award — it is a glimpse into the future of Nigerian innovation, where young people are empowered to compete and succeed on the global stage.
