Nigerians are raising their voices concerning the financial challenges associated with emigrating to the United Kingdom on student visas. Many individuals have expressed that the financial expenditure incurred does not justify the pursuit, highlighting the significant strain it places on Nigerian students.

The discussion was sparked by a tweet from @J_Chiemeke, a Lawyer residing in the United Kingdom, who strongly advised against pursuing this path. @J_Chiemeke emphasized the deteriorating situation over the past 18 months, making it increasingly unfeasible for Nigerians to pursue educational opportunities in the UK. "When someone talks about entering the UK with a student visa in 2024, I discourage them with all my might. I'm probably speaking from a position of privilege, but that path has become progressively worse in the past 18 months.", he wrote.

Many emphasized the importance of having a clear plan before embarking on such a journey, stating that spending a substantial amount of money without a solid plan is not advisable. "The first thing I ask is what is your plan. If I don't hear a clear plan (A, B, C, D, E), then I just discourage you completely. You cannot spend almost 30 million Naira on 'I'll figure it out when I get there", one individual wrote.

Another contributor shed light on the substantial costs involved, revealing, "My school fee alone was approxximately £24k excluding living expenses. With funding, I know how easy my life was compared to others (I always appreciate this privilege). I saw people struggle, I'll never advise anyone to embark on it if they're not fully funded or getting funds from their guardian.
