The Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has formally expressed its profound appreciation to the Bank of Industry (BOI) for the construction and donation of a 30-bedroom student hostel, officially commissioned on Friday, 20th February 2026, at the permanent site of the College of Health Sciences, Akamili, Nnewi.

The Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has formally expressed its profound appreciation to the Bank of Industry (BOI) for the construction and donation of a 30-bedroom student hostel, officially commissioned on Friday, 20th February 2026, at the permanent site of the College of Health Sciences, Akamili, Nnewi.

At the commissioning, the Managing Director of BOI, Dr. Olasupo Olusi, represented by Executive Director Mallam Omar Shekarau, described the event as a divinely inspired milestone. He emphasized that beyond financial support through loans, the Bank is committed to investing in projects that positively impact communities.

Mallam Shekarau commended the University leadership for their visionary collaboration and praised the project team and consultants for completing the hostel within record time.

Representatives of the University, including the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Joseph Ugboajah, represented by Prof. Ogo Ezejiofor, highlighted the strategic importance of robust synergy between the University and its Teaching Hospital. The new hostel was described as a key infrastructural advancement, enhancing both academic and clinical training.

Speaking on behalf of the Akamili community, Mr. Caleb Okekeobi thanked BOI for its generosity and appealed for further support to address local challenges such as road access and erosion control.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Bank of Industry. He noted that the hostel marks the second major project commissioned under his administration within two months and expressed optimism for more developmental projects in the near future.

Mr. John Ije, Project Manager at QS Consult, assured stakeholders that the hostel was constructed to durable standards, built to serve generations of students.

The ceremony’s highlight was the official ribbon-cutting and unveiling of commemorative plaques honoring the Vice-Chancellor, the Managing Director of BOI, and the project benefactor, Chief Chukwuemeka Nzewi (Eziokwubundu Nnewi), cementing this initiative as a landmark achievement for the University and community.
