Nnamdi Azikiwe University Introduces Proctored CBT Screening for Exceptional Underage JAMB Candidates

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has recorded a significant advancement in its admissions process following the successful deployment of a proctored Computer-Based Test (CBT) screening exercise for exceptional underage candidates applying for the 2026/2027 academic session.

The exercise targeted candidates who scored 80 per cent and above (320 and above) in the 2026 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination and are seeking admission into the institution under the underage candidate category.

According to the University, the development aligns with JAMB’s directive requiring underage applicants to undergo multiple assessment stages, including institutional screening. In response, the Management Information and Communication Technology Unit (MICTU), under the directive of the Vice-Chancellor, developed and deployed a secure proctored CBT platform specifically for the exercise.

The screening was conducted on the University’s digital CBT infrastructure under strict supervision, with real-time monitoring jointly carried out by the Admissions Unit and MICTU. The process was designed to ensure transparency, integrity, and efficiency in line with modern admission standards.

Approval for the screening format was given by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyahie, who stated that the initiative was aimed at reducing financial burden on candidates and parents, improving accessibility, and aligning the institution’s admission procedures with global best practices in digital assessment.

The proctored CBT system enabled live monitoring, instant scoring, and enhanced examination security, which the University described as a major step forward in modernising admission assessments. Officials noted that the platform significantly improves efficiency while reducing logistical challenges typically associated with conventional screening methods.

The institution further highlighted the broader benefits of the system, particularly in addressing transportation challenges, security concerns, and infrastructural limitations often faced by candidates across the country. It also noted that the model supports inclusivity by accommodating candidates with special needs and reducing barriers related to physical attendance.

The University added that the innovation contributes to environmental sustainability by minimizing travel-related emissions and logistical demands associated with large-scale examinations.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University reaffirmed its commitment to promoting merit, innovation, accessibility, and global standards in its admissions system, describing the initiative as part of its broader transformation into a digitally driven institution.
