The Management of Northwest University, Kano (NWU), has announced a strict prohibition on "signing-out" ceremonies and designated certain areas of the campus as off-limits for student photography.

In a formal circular dated March 2, 2026, signed by Jafaru Sule Muhammad, Head of the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions and Records (DEAR) on behalf of the Registrar, the University cited concerns over "immoral behavior," public nuisance, and conduct that undermines the institution's academic integrity during graduation festivities.

Key Directives for Graduating Students

The University Management has issued the following mandates with immediate effect:

Ban on Signing-Out Ceremonies: All forms of "signing-out" celebrations, including the staining of clothes with markers, loud processions, and campus parties, are strictly prohibited.

Restricted Zones for Photography: The Senate Building is officially designated as an administrative zone and is now off-limits for student photography. Graduands are directed to use designated recreational areas for commemorative pictures.

Restricted Use of Academic Gowns: The use of official academic gowns for private photography or "signing-out" stunts is banned. Gowns are strictly reserved for official Convocation and Matriculation ceremonies.

Disciplinary Consequences

The University warned that any student found violating these directives will face severe disciplinary action. Penalties for non-compliance may include the withholding of final academic results.
