Northwest University, Kano Vice-Chancellor Secures Commitment from A.A. Rano for Landmark Hostel Project
The Vice-Chancellor of Northwest University, Kano, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, on Friday, 19th December 2025, continued her familiarization tour and institutional visits following her assumption of office, as she led a delegation of principal officers of the University on a courtesy and appreciation visit to a renowned philanthropist and friend of the University, Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of A.A. Rano Group of Companies.
The visit, which took place at Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano’s office in Kano, was aimed at appreciating his sustained support and contributions to the development of Northwest University, Kano, as well as to formally request the redemption of his earlier pledge for the construction of a students’ hostel within the University.
Speaking during the visit, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero commended Alhaji Rano for his commitment, generosity, and passion for educational development in Kano State and beyond. She particularly thanked him for honoring the University’s invitation to the Second Combined Convocation Ceremony held in July 2025, describing his presence as a demonstration of his enduring support for the institution.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that the proposed hostel project would significantly address students’ accommodation challenges and enhance the learning environment, while also contributing to the overall growth and stability of the University. She assured the philanthropist of the University Management’s readiness to provide all necessary support, including the allocation of a suitable site for the project.
In his response, Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano expressed gratitude to the Management of Northwest University, Kano, for the visit and for the recognition of his modest contributions. He reaffirmed his commitment to the development of education and, in a swift response, pledged to immediately dispatch his team of engineers to assess the proposed site for the commencement of the hostel construction. The hostel would be named after his late father, as a lasting legacy in support of education and youth development.
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied on the visit by key principal officers of the University, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Aisha Garba Habib; the Registrar, Dr. Adm. Isyaku Adamu; the University Bursar, Malam Salmanu Muhammad Kibiya; the Dean, Students Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Musa; the Director of Physical Planning and Development (PP&D), Engineer Ramatu Aminu Ahmad; and Hajiya Hafsat Dan Datti Abdulkadir, among others.
Earlier in the day, members of staff of Northwest University, Kano, observed their routine Friday supplication prayers for peace and progress within the University community. The prayer session was, however, specially dedicated to the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero. After the recitation of the Holy Qur’an, the staff members proceeded to the Vice-Chancellor’s office, where special prayers were offered for her success, wisdom, and impactful leadership as she steers the affairs of the University.
The visit and the prayers collectively highlight the growing spirit of unity, goodwill, and collaboration between the University Management, staff, and critical stakeholders, as Northwest University, Kano, embarks on a new chapter under the leadership of Professor Amina Salihi Bayero.
