NOUN Poised to Become Nigeria's Electric Vehicle Hub, Says VC Prof. Olufemi Peters
The Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Olufemi Peters, has stated that the institution is well-positioned to serve as a focal point for the development of electric vehicle (EV) technology at a technical and vocational level in Nigeria.
Professor Peters made the remarks in his office during a courtesy visit from an electric motor company that was present to redeem an earlier pledge. He anticipates that as major automobile companies begin importing EVs in the near future, there will be a crucial need for trained personnel to maintain them.
"The collaboration between the university and the company will be a welcome development for the future," Peters stated.
"We actually pledged to donate two. We have one here and we will donate the second one within the next week once the batteries arrive," Audu said, noting that the batteries are currently not produced locally.
Audu emphasized that electric vehicles are not just a passion but represent the future of transportation. He drew a parallel to past technological shifts, suggesting that the world is set to move away from traditional combustion engines and CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) vehicles. The CEO noted that a global consensus aims to end the production of CNG vehicles by 2030.
