NOUN Port Harcourt Centre Sends Off Chief Accountant, Receives Deputy Bursar

The Port Harcourt Study Centre, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Thursday, September 5, 2024, sent off Mr. Felix Chegwe, a Chief Accountant, while receiving a Deputy Bursar and an Accountant-1.

Chegwe, who arrived Port Harcourt Centre in 2018, has worked as the only accountant of the centre for a greater part of his tenure in Port Harcourt after two of his female colleagues exited the centre in 2018 and 2022.

The Chief Accountant, who has now been transferred to Benin Study Centre in Edo State, was replaced with two of his colleagues: Mr. Emezuoke Bobo Mpamaugo, a Deputy Bursar and Mrs. Peace Kelechi Orji, an Accountant 1, who were transferred from Benin and Owerri study centres, respectively.

The Director, Port Harcourt Study Centre, Dr. Theresa Ucheoma Ettu, who presided over the brief send off/reception ceremony, described Chegwe as a very committed, resilient and hardworking person who was always overworked as the only accountant at the centre.

Ettu said that she has proven all the negative insinuations made against the accountant at her arrival at the centre wrong.

She further tasked the Chief Accountant to keep up the virtues that she has found in him and keep proving his detractors wrong at his new station and beyond.

The director expressed thanks to God that the real mole who perpetrated all the atrocities at Port Harcourt Study Centre had been uncovered before Chegwe got transferred, without which all the negative innuendoes could have been construed as factual.

Chegwe, in his valedictory remarks, expressed gratitude to  the study centre director for being a true mother from whom he learnt some new administrative skills; and for instilling a great level of harmony among the staff. 

He urged her to keep up with her good works.

He told the staff of the centre that he loved them, and counseled them to eschew evil. "Remember the saying 'Clear conscience fears no accusation;' even when you are wrongly accused, ensure that you keep clean hands." 

Similarly, the new accounting chiefs at the centre charged the staff to work as one and strive to leave a positive legacy behind as it is sure that no one remains permanently at NOUN centres.
