NSCDC Reaffirms Security Partnership With Federal University Lokoja, Emphasises Collaboration To Tackle Campus Insecurity

This position was reaffirmed by the Kogi State Commandant of the NSCDC, Aletan Olumide Ebenezer, during a formal reception held at the Command Headquarters in Lokoja on 20 May 2026, when he hosted the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye.
The visit was aimed at strengthening existing security partnerships and reinforcing operational synergy between both institutions in addressing emerging security challenges within the university environment.
Speaking during the engagement, Professor Ibileye described the relationship between the university and the NSCDC as critical and interdependent, noting that both institutions share a responsibility in ensuring a safe and stable academic environment.
He emphasized the strategic importance of the university’s location and structure, stating that these factors require sustained and visible security presence to ensure the safety of students, staff, and infrastructure.
The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed that the university management is developing internal security enhancement measures aimed at strengthening campus safety architecture and improving overall orderliness within the institution.
He further commended the NSCDC Commandant for what he described as transformative leadership and notable structural improvements within the state command, adding that such developments reflect professionalism and institutional commitment.

In his response, Commandant Aletan expressed appreciation for the visit and commended the Vice-Chancellor for his proactive leadership style and commitment to institutional development since assuming office.
He reaffirmed that educational institutions remain critical national assets under the protective mandate of the NSCDC, assuring the university of continuous support and strict security oversight where necessary.
The Commandant also briefed the delegation on ongoing national security initiatives under the leadership of the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, including the establishment of the National Safe School Response Coordination Centre aimed at strengthening security in educational institutions across the country.
Following a recent threat assessment, he provided advisory recommendations to the university, including sustained engagement with students and staff to enhance information sharing and early threat detection within the campus environment. The university management reportedly welcomed the recommendations and pledged cooperation in their implementation.
Commandant Aletan also called for stronger collaboration in research exchange, urging the university to share relevant academic outputs that could support operational efficiency and security strategy development within the Corps.

The visit concluded with an exchange of plaques between both institutions, symbolizing renewed commitment to partnership and coordinated efforts toward improving campus security and institutional resilience.
