Nasarawa State University, Keffi, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, has hosted a pre-launch “Ideation/Ecosystem Mixer” as part of activities leading to the official unveiling of the Minetech Unipod.

The event, held on April 1, 2026, at the university’s Unipod facility, was aimed at activating the innovation hub, mobilising stakeholders, and strengthening participation across Nigeria’s mineral development ecosystem.

The engagement brought together representatives from universities, federal ministries, departments and agencies, non-governmental organisations, mining firms, and host communities. Participants were also introduced to the vision, infrastructure, and programme offerings of the Minetech Unipod.

Organisers said the initiative is designed to build early momentum within the mining innovation space, reposition the Unipod as a dynamic ecosystem rather than a static facility, and address gaps across the mineral value chain. The platform also prioritises mentorship and career development for emerging talents within the sector.

Speaking at the event, Aisha Kana, Director of the Unipod, described the project as a strategic hub focused on value creation and mineral beneficiation through collaboration and community-driven engagement.

She emphasised the need for stronger alignment between government, academia, and industry players to drive innovation, support commercialisation, and maximise the potential of the Unipod in advancing Nigeria’s mining sector.

The programme featured panel discussions and interactive sessions, with contributions from industry stakeholders and active participation from students serving as Unipod Champions. Discussions centred on addressing structural challenges within the sector and promoting sustainable development.

The event also included the presentation of commemorative frames to panelists by students of Geology and Mining, followed by a group photograph to mark the occasion.
