The National Universities Commission (NUC) has conducted a comprehensive resource verification exercise at the University of Offa (UNIOFFA), Kwara State, as part of requirements for the approval of new academic programmes in the institution.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has conducted a comprehensive resource verification exercise at the University of Offa (UNIOFFA), Kwara State, as part of requirements for the approval of new academic programmes in the institution.

The exercise, which took place on Monday, April 13, 2026, is part of ongoing efforts by the university to expand its academic offerings, particularly within the Faculty of Health Sciences.

According to the university, the verification process is a mandatory quality assurance procedure used by the NUC to assess facilities and academic capacity before approving new programmes in Nigerian universities.

The NUC delegation inspected key departments proposed for expansion, including Nursing Science, Physiotherapy, and Community Health.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Offa, Prof. Kazeem Alagbe Gbolagade, welcomed the team and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and compliance with regulatory standards.

He noted that since the university commenced academic activities in 2022 after its establishment in 2021, it has continued to experience steady growth, starting with two faculties and ten academic programmes.

Prof. Gbolagade highlighted the university’s five point development agenda, which includes financial sustainability, digital transformation through a paperless system, improved welfare for staff and students, a conducive learning environment, and promotion of research and industry collaboration.

He also emphasized the institution’s strong ICT focus and its partnership with New Horizons, through which students across all disciplines acquire digital skills relevant to modern workforce demands.

According to him, the university is deliberately structured to produce graduates who are not only employable but also capable of creating jobs through entrepreneurship-driven education.

“Our goal is to build a generation of innovators and job creators. We are deliberately positioning our students to succeed beyond the classroom,” he said.

The inspection team assessed facilities including the university library, ICT centre, health centre, lecture halls, and science laboratories such as Physics, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, as well as Nursing demonstration units.

Principal officers present included the Registrar, Mr. Salahudeen Ajibola Oyewale; Dr. Abdulrasaq Bello, Director of Academic Planning and Dean, College of Science and Computing; the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences; and other senior academic and administrative staff.

The university expressed confidence that the outcome of the exercise would support the approval of its proposed programmes and further strengthen its academic expansion drive.
