The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), on Monday, August 17, 2026, hosted a Resource Verification Team from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to assess the university’s readiness to commence proposed new academic programmes.

The exercise focused on programmes proposed by the School of Architecture (SA), School of Science and Technology Education (SSTE), and School of Electrical Systems Engineering (SESE).

The proposed programmes are:

• Landscape Architecture

• Interior Architecture Design

• Industrial and Technology Education

• Information and Communication Engineering

The exercise formed part of the NUC’s regulatory and quality assurance responsibilities and focused on verifying the availability and adequacy of the human, physical and academic resources required for effective delivery of the proposed programmes.

The areas assessed included:

• Qualified academic and non-academic staff

• Lecture rooms

• Laboratories

• Equipment

• Library resources

• Other essential facilities

Speaking on behalf of the NUC team, Prof. Isah Danladi said the exercise was aimed at determining whether the proposed programmes met the Commission’s prescribed standards before approval for commencement.

He emphasised the importance of qualified academic manpower, adequate teaching and learning facilities, well-equipped laboratories, library resources and other critical infrastructure in sustaining quality university education.

Prof. Danladi commended the FUTA Management for its preparedness and efforts towards establishing the proposed programmes.

He urged the university to sustain its commitment to quality assurance and adherence to NUC guidelines, noting that observations from the exercise would form part of the Commission’s assessment and subsequent recommendations.

Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Timothy Amos, reaffirmed FUTA’s commitment to providing quality academic programmes that meet national and global standards.

He said the university had made deliberate efforts to provide the required facilities, qualified academic staff and other resources necessary for the successful implementation of the proposed programmes.

Prof. Amos assured the NUC team of the university’s readiness to comply with the Commission’s standards and recommendations arising from the exercise.

He also expressed optimism that the verification exercise would further strengthen FUTA’s academic profile and expand opportunities for students to pursue programmes in emerging and relevant fields of study.

During the exercise, the NUC team inspected relevant university facilities and engaged university officials on the academic, administrative and infrastructural arrangements put in place for the proposed programmes.

The assessment provided an opportunity for the Commission to evaluate FUTA’s preparedness in key areas, including academic manpower, infrastructure, laboratories, equipment, library resources and other requirements for effective programme delivery.

The successful completion of the resource verification exercise marks another step in FUTA’s efforts to expand its academic offerings and provide programmes that respond to emerging societal, technological and developmental needs.
