NYSC Love Story: Couple Who Met in Camp Celebrate 10 Years of Marriage
Their friendship blossomed during the three-week orientation camp, where they often walked together to morning drills, visited Mami Market with friends, and rested in the hostel.
Mr. and Mrs. Enujeke first crossed paths during their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Niger State in 2009. The husband, a graduate of Delta State University, Abraka, arrived early to the camp, while his future wife, an alumna of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, arrived later in the day, just in time to secure hostel accommodation.
The next day, after completing her registration, they met as he was assisting new arrivals. They discovered they were both in the same platoon—Platoon 8—and shared the same home state, Delta State, despite their different upbringings in the north and south of Nigeria.
Their friendship blossomed during the three-week orientation camp, where they often walked together to morning drills, visited Mami Market with friends, and rested in the hostel. This bond grew stronger even after their Primary Place of Assignment (PPA) postings—he was sent to the College of Education in Minna, while she was posted to Bosso Local Government Secretariat. Despite being in different Local Government Areas, they were only 10 to 15 minutes apart.
The couple maintained their connection through calls, messages, and occasional visits. By the time they completed their service in 2010, their relationship had grown deep, and they kept in touch despite the long distance. In 2012, she moved to Benin City for work, reducing the distance between them and strengthening their bond further.
In January 2015, Mr. Enujeke proposed, and the couple married in April of the same year. They are now blessed with two children and are set to celebrate a decade of marriage next April, marking 16 years since they first met in 2009.
Mr. and Mrs. Enujeke credit NYSC for bringing them together and are proud to be a part of the program that changed their lives.
