Obafemi Awolowo University Mourns Loss of Student in Road Accident
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Abiodun Olarewaju described it as a “colossal loss” to the department, faculty, and the entire university community.
Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) is in mourning following the tragic death of Chisom Nwankwo, a final-year student in the Department of Agricultural Economics. Nwankwo was killed in a road accident within the campus.
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Abiodun Olarewaju, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday. He expressed deep sadness and regret over the student’s untimely demise, describing it as a “colossal loss” to the department, faculty, and the entire university community.

The university management offered their condolences to the student’s family, stating that they are deeply saddened by the incident. In response to this tragic event, the university management has urged motorists and motorcyclists to be more mindful of traffic laws and reduce their speed within and outside the campus.

Olarewaju emphasized that the university cannot afford to lose its students under any circumstances and urged everyone to prioritize safe driving practices. The management also appealed to private car and commercial bus drivers to drive slowly on campus, adhering to speed limits and traffic signs, in hopes of preventing similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
