Students from Gateway ICT Polytechnic , Saapade in Ogun State have protest the alleged killing of their fellow student, Idowu Pelumi David by a hit and run driver.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, July 8, 2024, in front of the NYSC Camp, has sparked outrage and demands for justice. The victim, Idowu Pelumi David, a National Diploma 1 Public Administration student, was reportedly struck by a hit-and-run driver.

 The students, armed with placards bearing various inscriptions, accused a staff member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) of being responsible for their colleague’s death.

Presenting a protest letter to the Ogun State Police Command, the students expressed their grief and called for the culprit to be brought to justice. They alleged a cover-up in the matter and urged police authorities to thoroughly investigate and hold the responsible party accountable.

Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alamutu assured the protesting students that an investigation was underway. His assistant, Operations Manager Fergus, represented him during the interaction with the students. The incident has raised concerns about road safety and accountability, prompting the student community to demand swift action and transparency in the case.

The Gateway Polytechnic students, members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), vowed to continue their peaceful protest until justice is served.
