OORBDA Commences Construction of Solar-Powered Borehole at FUNAAB’s College of Engineering

The Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority (OORBDA) has commenced the construction of a solar-powered borehole at the College of Engineering (COLENG), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).

The Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority (OORBDA) has commenced the construction of a solar-powered borehole at the College of Engineering (COLENG), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).

The initiative fulfills a commitment made during the 2023/2024 Academic Session Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Graduate Membership Induction Ceremony for COLENG graduates.

On September 18, 2025, an OORBDA delegation led by Mr. Sunday Akindele visited FUNAAB to inspect the designated site. They were received by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Olawale Dairo, representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, alongside the Acting Dean of COLENG, Prof. Rasaq Adetunji.

Prof. Dairo expressed appreciation to OORBDA, describing the donation as timely and impactful, noting that the borehole would alleviate water supply challenges and strengthen institutional collaboration. Prof. Adetunji and Prof. Adewole Aderinlewo, Chairman of the COLENG Induction Planning Committee, assured that the College would ensure proper maintenance of the facility. Engr. (Dr.) Ben Anyanwu, Acting Head of Mechanical Engineering and project contact, commended OORBDA for “walking the talk” and urged the Authority to extend similar projects, such as drainage systems and water facilities, to the wider University community.

Mr. Akindele conveyed the Managing Director’s regards, reaffirmed OORBDA’s commitment to address raised concerns, and expressed delight at the opportunity to collaborate with FUNAAB.

The formal signing of the Project Site Handover Form by Prof. Dairo and Prof. Adetunji marked the official commencement of the borehole project.

The initiative is expected to significantly improve water access in COLENG while reinforcing the long-standing partnership between FUNAAB and OORBDA.
