Oyo State Assembly Passes Bill Renaming First Technical University to Abiola Ajimobi Technical University

The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved the bill to rename the state-owned First Technical University to Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, enshrining it into law. The decision was made during the plenary session on Wednesday, with the Committee on Tertiary Institutions presenting the report, chaired by Oluwafemi Fowokanmi.

The bill underwent meticulous scrutiny, with lawmakers considering it clause by clause during the Committee of the Whole House, constituted by Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin. Following the thorough examination, the bill successfully passed through its third reading.

According to Chairman Fowokanmi, the renaming of the institution to Abiola Ajimobi Technical University will grant it access to various benefits enjoyed by other state-owned institutions. He emphasized that the institution's financing is sourced from local government scholarship payments and internally generated revenue.

Furthermore, Fowokanmi highlighted that the renaming authenticates the institution's status as one of the state-owned tertiary institutions, ensuring its eligibility for subvention similar to other institutions in the state.
