President Tinubu Sacks Education Minister, Redeploys Others in Major Cabinet Reshuffle
President Bola Tinubu has sacked the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, along with four other ministers, in a major cabinet reshuffle.
In a significant cabinet shake-up, President Bola Tinubu has dismissed the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, alongside four other ministers, while also making strategic redeployments and new appointments within his administration. The announcement was made by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, following the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House in Abuja on Thursday.
Prof. Mamman, who had overseen the Ministry of Education, was relieved of his duties amidst a broader restructuring effort aimed at enhancing government efficiency and addressing national challenges. The decision also affected four other ministers, including Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Women Affairs), Lola Ade-John (Tourism), Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo (State, Housing and Urban Development), and Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim (Youth Development).
As part of the reshuffle, Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa, previously the Minister of State for Health, has been appointed as the new Minister of Education. This change is expected to usher in a fresh approach to educational policies and reforms, aimed at addressing key issues within Nigeria's academic sector.
The reorganization did not stop there, as 10 ministers were redeployed to different portfolios. Notably, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, formerly the Minister of State for Education, was reassigned to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, while other strategic moves included Bello Muhammad Goronyo, who shifted from Water Resources and Sanitation to Works, and Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, now serving as the Minister of Women Affairs after her previous role in Police Affairs.
The reshuffle also saw the appointment of seven new ministers, subject to Senate confirmation. Among the nominees are Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda (Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction), Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi (Labour & Employment), and Bianca Odinaka Odumegwu-Ojukwu (State, Foreign Affairs). Additionally, Suwaiba Said Ahmad has been nominated as Minister of State for Education, signaling a commitment to strengthening educational governance in the country.
The sweeping changes reflect President Tinubu's determination to reposition his administration, enhance service delivery, and tackle pressing national concerns across various sectors.
