He played a pioneering role in establishing the Freshwater Biological Association of Nigeria (FBAN) and has been a dedicated advocate for environmental conservation throughout his career.

Born in Gombe State, Professor Umar’s academic journey began with a B.Sc. (Ed) in Biology and culminated in a Ph.D. in Freshwater Ecology. His impressive career at Gombe State University has seen him rise to the esteemed position of Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, where he has significantly influenced research and development, guiding numerous students towards postgraduate success.
