Rector Cares Foundation Launches Essay Competition on Water Sustainability for Lagos Students
The Rector Cares Foundation has launched an essay competition for Senior Secondary School students in Lagos, encouraging them to propose solutions to water scarcity and sanitation challenges.
The Rector Cares Foundation has officially launched an essay competition aimed at addressing water sustainability issues, targeting Senior Secondary School students in Lagos. The competition, titled “The Critical Role of WASH in Promoting Sustainable Development in Lagos,” encourages students from SS1 and SS2 to present innovative solutions to the pressing challenges of water scarcity and sanitation.
The essay competition, which runs from October 1 to October 31, 2024, focuses on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) and its crucial role in achieving sustainable development. Participants are expected to propose practical solutions for ensuring water sustainability in Lagos.
The winner of the competition will be awarded a cash prize of ₦500,000, along with other exciting prizes.
Speaking on the initiative, Onyedikachi Erete, founder of the Rector Cares Foundation, emphasized the importance of engaging young minds in solving the nation's water challenges. "Empowering the next generation to think critically about water scarcity and sanitation is crucial for the sustainable development of Lagos and Nigeria as a whole," Erete stated. "By involving students in this process, we are nurturing future leaders who will bring innovative solutions to these challenges."
The Rector Cares Foundation, which is renowned for its efforts in addressing water scarcity and promoting sanitation, has provided clean water to over 100,000 people across states such as Lagos, Abia, Imo, and Enugu. The foundation has also made strides in promoting STEM education through its 'Nkuzi STEM' program in schools.
