Chatora Herring, a determined young mother of two, has achieved a remarkable milestone by earning her Bachelor's degree in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, marking the end of a 14-year hiatus from her education.

Chatora's educational journey took an unexpected turn when she dropped out of college at the age of 19 to pursue work and financial stability. Despite the detour, she never lost sight of her academic aspirations. Over the years, life presented various challenges as she got married, transitioned through different careers, and became a mother of two.

Returning to university amidst personal trials, Chatora faced the additional hurdle of being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Moreover, her youngest child was diagnosed with autism, and she was concurrently navigating a divorce. Undeterred by these formidable challenges, Chatora rekindled her commitment to education.

"Coming back to school was hard because I was now a mother of 2, had multiple sclerosis, and was going through a divorce. Life really happened," she shared. Despite these adversities, Chatora remained steadfast in her pursuit of a degree, driven by her deep love for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Expressing her motivation, she said, "It's been a real struggle staying in school this go around, but I did it! My biggest motivation this time was my children." Originally set to graduate in May 2020, Chatora persevered through the challenges to ensure that this year would be a moment of triumph for her and her family.

Her chosen field of study, Human Development and Family Studies, aligns with her passion for supporting individuals across diverse age groups and backgrounds. Chatora aspires to build a career where she can make a positive impact on people's lives.

In reflecting on her journey, Chatora hopes that her story will inspire others facing obstacles to pursue and complete their degrees. "The road to getting a degree will not be easy but it will be very rewarding in the end. Just stick to the plan and go for it," she encourages.
