Empowerment Or Empty Promise: Netizens Reacts To NYSC 10 Millionaire NGN Promise

Nigerians have responded to the 10 million NGN promise to the National Youth Corps Members (NYSC) as a scam.

This follows recent news where the Minister of Youth Development, Jamila Ibrahim, announced the intention of President Bola Tinubu’s government to empower at least 5,000 National Youth Corps Service (NYSC) members with the sum of N10 million each as an initiative to support entrepreneurial endeavors upon completion of their mandatory one-year service. She disclosed this while speaking at a meeting with the NYSC management and leaders of Corps Producing Institutions (CPI) in Abuja.

Netizens and Corp members have reacted to this news claiming that it is another propaganda of the Government that is unlikely to get implemented. They expressed doubt, citing past unfulfilled promises and concerns about potential mismanagement of funds. “Another tunnel to loot public funds,” one remarked. “Hope this is not another way of siphoning Nigeria money; they should be transparent about it,” another added.

They acknowledge the initiative as a welcome development while highlighting the infeasibility of the scheme. “How elated would I have been if this had been given to them, but you see this one, it’s a scam. The same thing was said for student loans, up till today, zero implementation. Politicians are really using us to play in this country; we really need to wise up and wake up from our sleep; we are tired of their fake promises,” a corps member noted.

They also questioned the number of Corp members who would benefit from the scheme. They expressed that 5,000 speculated beneficiaries are just a few compared to the number of NYSC members across the country. “These people cannot cease to amaze us, 5,000 among how many corp members,” one mentioned. "How about they give N2 million to 50,000 Corps Members? I think giving it to a larger number will be better than giving it to just a few members,” a corps member noted.
