School Bus Driver Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Defiling 3-Year-Old Girl

Justice Oshodi emphasized that the prosecution had provided compelling evidence of the defilement charge against Mowete.

The verdict comes after a five-year trial during which the prosecution successfully proved the charge of defilement against Mowete.

The judge emphasized that the burden of proof was met by the prosecution, leading to the conviction. Mowete’s claim of an amorous relationship with the victim’s mother was dismissed by the court. The defense’s argument that the victim was coached was also refuted.
Justice Oshodi emphasized that the prosecution had provided compelling evidence of the defilement charge against Mowete. The survivor, despite her tender age, bravely recounted to the court how Mowete had assaulted her.

The judge dismissed the defense's argument that the child had been coached, pointing out inconsistencies in Mowete's testimony that conflicted with the timeline presented by the victim's mother. Medical examinations confirmed the repeated blunt force penetration, further solidifying the prosecution's case.
As a result, Mowete was sentenced to life imprisonment and his name will be listed in the Lagos State Sexual Offences Register. In delivering the final verdict, Justice Oshodi declared, "You are hereby sentenced to life imprisonment, and you shall serve the remainder of your term in the Maximum Correctional Centre."
