Senate Chief Whip Pledges Support to Borno State University
The Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, has pledged to assist Borno State University (BOSU) in overcoming its infrastructure deficit.
The senator, who represents Borno North at the National Assembly, made the pledge when the university's management staff, led by Vice Chancellor Professor Babagana Gutti, paid him a visit at his residence in Maiduguri.
Senator Monguno described education as the bedrock of development and human endeavor, emphasizing his commitment to supporting the university. Although BOSU is not in his constituency, he acknowledged his responsibility to assist the institution, which serves the entire state of Borno.
The senator urged the university management to select a project from their list of requests, with a budget not exceeding N1.5 billion, to be considered for inclusion in the current year's budget. He assured the management that he would lobby for the remaining requests to be captured in subsequent budgetary allocations.
Professor Gutti expressed gratitude for the senator's support, stating that the visit was aimed at introducing the new management team and soliciting assistance in bridging the university's infrastructure gap. The senator was presented with a list of potential areas for intervention, including lecture theaters, multipurpose halls, and departmental buildings.
The meeting was attended by the new Registrar, Mrs. Jallaba M. Shiekh, and the new Bursar, Malam Dunoma Kyari Dunoma. Senator Monguno's commitment to supporting BOSU is a significant step towards addressing the university's infrastructure challenges and promoting education in Borno State.
