Students Call for Dissolution of Student Union and Representative Bodies at Ebonyi State University
Students at Ebonyi State University Call for Dissolution of SUG, Faculty, and Departmental Bodies Amid Payment Controversy
In a surprising turn of events, students of Ebonyi State University (EBSU) are calling for the dissolution of the Student Union Government (SUG), faculty presidents, department presidents, and course representatives, citing dissatisfaction with their ability to advocate for student concerns.
The discontent stems from recent changes in fee payment procedures, particularly the introduction of a one-point payment system earlier this year. Students initially welcomed the new system as it allowed them to generate Remita for various fees, including faculty, departmental, and SUG dues, along with their school fees.

However, grievances have arisen as students claim they were assured that after this payment, no further charges would be incurred for faculty and departmental dues. To their dismay, students are now being instructed to repay these dues during the ongoing examination period, despite having already paid them alongside their school fees.

Expressing their frustration, students argue that the SUG body, faculty presidents, department presidents, and course representatives have failed to address these issues effectively. Many are now calling for the university management to take full control of administrative affairs, asserting that the existing student representative bodies are no longer serving their intended purpose.

As tensions rise, students are seeking transparency and accountability, demanding a thorough investigation into the conflicting information surrounding fee payments and a clear explanation for the unexpected additional charges.
The university management has yet to respond to these calls for dissolution, leaving students in suspense as they await further developments in this unfolding situation at Ebonyi State University.
