The management of Sule Lamido University Kafin Hausa (SLUK) has officially announced, with deep sorrow, the passing of Professor Umma AbdulWahid, a pioneer director and distinguished academic. The tragic incident occurred following a motor accident along the Kano-Zaria Road on Wednesday, 18th February 2026.

Professor Umma, a native of Dabi in Ringim Local Government Area, was a Professor of Educational Psychology and a foundational pillar of the university. At the time of her passing, she served as the Director of the Counselling and Human Development Centre.

A Legacy of Institutional Leadership

Professor Umma’s career was marked by trailblazing leadership across the Nigerian educational landscape:

National Service: She was the Pioneer Provost of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) College of Education, Zuba.

State Impact: She served on the Technical Committee for the establishment of the then Jigawa State University (now SLUK).

Beyond her academic achievements, Professor Umma was widely celebrated for her humanitarian spirit. According to family representative Shehu Lawan Dabi, her benevolence transformed hundreds of lives:

Education: She personally sponsored over 85 youths through various institutions of higher learning.

Professor Umma passed away at the age of 70, leaving behind two daughters, Hadiza and Hannatu, and a vast network of relatives, colleagues, and beneficiaries.
