Taraba State University ASUU Chapter Suspends Strike Action

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University (TSU) Chapter, has suspended its strike action, which commenced on December 5, 2024.
The decision follows the Taraba State Government's commitment to addressing the union's demands, as outlined in multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and Memoranda of Action (MoAs) agreed upon since 2014.
Key issues under dispute have been addressed, including:
- University Funding: The Government has agreed to enhance university funding in line with Taraba State Law No. 4 of 2008.
- Earned Academic Allowances (EAA): An initial payment of 10% of the total accumulated sum has been disbursed, with 5% to be released monthly from February 2025.
- Staff Pension and Gratuity: The government has approved a State-Defined Pension Scheme, ensuring prompt and efficient payment of benefits.
- Backlog of Salaries: A template for clearing arrears will be finalized by February 2025.
- Constitution of the University Governing Council: Membership will be adjusted to comply with statutory requirements.
- Minimum Wage: The Government has implemented wage and consequential adjustments, with a commitment to timely salary payments.
The ASUU-TSU Chapter has expressed gratitude to the Taraba State Government, ASUU National, and other stakeholders for their support in resolving the dispute.
