Taraba State University Welcomes NBTE Delegation for TVET Programme Accreditation
The Vice Chancellor of Taraba State University, Jalingo, Prof. Sunday Paul Bako, warmly represented by the DVC (Administration), Prof. Jonathan Reuben, alongside the DVC (Academic), Assoc. Prof. Ahmad Baba, Director of ICT, Prof. Joseph U. Okeke, Director of Sandwich Programme, Dr. Chia Azuaga, and other senior staff members, officially welcomed the delegation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) led by Barrister Builder Saul Samaila.
The visit was part of the accreditation process for the university's Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes.
In his welcome address, Prof. Jonathan Reuben described the university as a centre of excellence and innovation, emphasizing that staff are equipped with essential ICT skills. He noted that Taraba State University is one of the fastest-growing institutions in Northern Nigeria and commended NBTE for its continued role in promoting technical education and accrediting key programmes.
Barr. Builder Saul Samaila, the NBTE facilitator, explained that the partnership aims to deliver practical, industry-relevant training that empowers the youth with the skills necessary to thrive in today’s economy. He further noted that the programme is part of a national initiative by the Federal Government of Nigeria, implemented through NBTE. TVET focuses on competency-based training in key fields such as ICT, Construction, Agriculture, Manufacturing, Creative Industries, and other technical trades.
He stressed that this initiative aligns with Nigeria’s national development goals to reduce unemployment, promote entrepreneurship, and bridge the skill gap in critical sectors.
Barr. Samaila added that NBTE is currently expanding TVET access across Nigeria by partnering with tertiary institutions, training centres, and innovation hubs to build a globally competitive skill acquisition ecosystem.
This partnership presents a strategic opportunity for Taraba State University to position itself as a leading institution in vocational education and youth development. It aligns with national priorities and promises to deliver measurable social and economic impact across Taraba State and beyond.
