Thomas Adewumi University has inaugurated a committee to facilitate the accreditation of the Thomas Adewumi University Teaching Hospital by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria for clinical training.

The move forms part of efforts by the university to strengthen healthcare education and ensure that its clinical training facilities meet national standards required for the Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.NSc.) programme.

The committee, chaired by Prof. Emenike O. Irakanulo, comprises professionals drawn from both the university and the teaching hospital. Members have been tasked with coordinating activities necessary for a successful accreditation and inspection exercise.

The committee was officially inaugurated by the Founder and Chancellor of the university, Engr. Dr. Johnson Adewumi, who described the initiative as a major milestone in the institution’s drive to transform the Omu-Aran General Hospital into a fully operational teaching hospital for the university.

Speaking during the inauguration, Dr. Adewumi commended members of the committee for accepting the responsibility and urged them to work diligently toward achieving the institution’s accreditation target scheduled for September 30, 2026.

In his response, Prof. Irakanulo assured the university management of the committee’s commitment to delivering on its mandate and establishing a strong foundation for sustainable clinical training at the institution.

The accreditation effort is expected to enhance the university’s capacity for practical medical and nursing education while strengthening its position within Nigeria’s healthcare and academic sectors.

University officials noted that the initiative aligns with the institution’s broader vision of advancing medical education, healthcare delivery, and research through improved infrastructure and professional standards.
