Thomas Adewumi University Hosts NSE Omu-Aran Branch for Strategic Dinner on Engineering and National Development
The Thomas Adewumi University Founder and Chancellor, Engr. Dr. Johnson Adewumi, hosted the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Omu-Aran Branch, alongside TAU engineers and members of the University Management, at a special dinner themed “A Dinner for the Beginning of the Year.”

The gathering, convened to foster professional engagement and dialogue on national development, highlighted the role of engineers in shaping Nigeria’s future. In his remarks, the Chairman of NSE Omu-Aran Branch, Engr. Dr. Ezugwu Chinedu, recognised Dr. Adewumi as Patron of the branch and commended his philanthropic contributions and support for regional infrastructure projects, including the Oko Road project from Omu-Aran.
The dinner emphasised collaboration between TAU engineers and NSE members, proposing professional lectures at the University and sponsorship of TAU staff for conferences and COREN certification to strengthen institutional visibility.
As Patron, Engr. Dr. Adewumi encouraged participants to deliberate on the future of engineering in Nigeria and the nation’s development, stressing the importance of engineers’ contributions to societal progress.
Distinguished engineers present offered insights on professional impact and national transformation. Engr. Prof. Bamidele S. Fakinle, Dean, College of Engineering, Landmark University, described engineers as problem solvers and nation builders, urging purposeful engagement despite national challenges. Engr. Prof. John Ojediran, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Landmark University, highlighted the need for constructive national mindsets and contributions to domestic development. Prof. Oladipupo Oladejo, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, TAU, emphasised innovation in addressing societal challenges. Engr. John Ramonu, Immediate Past Chairman of the branch, called for active participation in leadership by competent professionals of integrity.
Engr. Lanre Ilesanmi, Director of Works, TAU, noted the trend of seeking opportunities abroad and commended Dr. Adewumi for supporting local development initiatives. Registrar Mr. Kolawole Fisoye stressed the importance of producing globally competent, evidence-based engineers.
In his closing remarks, Engr. Dr. Adewumi reaffirmed TAU’s vision of producing employable, internationally certified graduates and encouraged professionals to mentor younger generations. He pledged closer partnership with NSE Omu-Aran Branch and confirmed the proposed professional lecture would be implemented within the year.
The event concluded with renewed commitment to professional collaboration, nation-building, and advancing engineering practice in Nigeria.
