In a devastating turn of events, the corpse of four Indian medical students, who lost their lives while swimming in the Volkhov River in the city of Veliky Novgorod, northwest Russia, has been found on Friday, May 7. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, June 4, has sent shockwaves through both the Indian and Russian communities.

Russian investigators have reported that as of Friday, two bodies have been recovered from the river, revealing the gravity of the tragedy and the challenging recovery efforts underway.
According to statements from the regional investigative committee, the students were swimming in an area of the river where bathing is prohibited. Tragically, two of them began to be swept away by the strong current, prompting two others to leap into action to rescue them. Unfortunately, all four students eventually submerged underwater.

The Indian consulate in Saint Petersburg confirmed that a fifth student was successfully rescued from the river. These students were enrolled in medical studies at a university in Veliky Novgorod, adding to the sadness of the loss.
