The Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, Benue State, is mourning the untimely death of Destiny Akase, a 300-level student from the prestigious Department of Physics. The tragic news of Destiny's passing has left the university community and those who knew him in deep shock and sorrow.
A fellow student, who shared his brief but memorable encounter with Destiny, recounted the events leading up to the devastating news. On Monday, August 4th, 2023, the two met at the Benue Links Adikpo Park while traveling back to Makurdi. The encounter, though brief, left a lasting impression.
The student, who had seen Destiny around campus but had never spoken to him before that day, recalled how they sat together at the front of the vehicle with the driver. They had a lively conversation about their university, sharing thoughts and experiences during the journey. They parted ways at the Benue Links Park in Makurdi around 6 p.m., with no inkling that this would be their final meeting.
It was only later, through social media posts, that the student learned of Destiny's tragic fate. Initially in disbelief, the student followed up on the reports, hoping they were untrue. Unfortunately, the heartbreaking news was confirmed.
In a poignant tribute, the student expressed deep sorrow and reflection, saying, "Destiny, your death makes me sit, contemplate, and tears drop from my eyes deep down in my heart, but I have nothing to do to bring you back. Death is in the hands of God. Just look at the person I met recently when I went for treatment, and he's dead today while I'm still alive! What a world."
Destiny was remembered as a kind and innocent young man, whose sudden passing has left those who knew him, even briefly, struggling to come to terms with the loss. The student concluded the tribute with a heartfelt message, "Continue to rest in peace, Destiny. Death is inevitable, but your memory will live on in our hearts."
The entire university community extends its condolences to Destiny's family, friends, and classmates during this difficult time. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
