Twin Sisters From Texas Make History, Graduate Simultaneously With Master’s Degrees

Keyara and Teyara Watson-Love, fraternal twins hailing from the Fifth Ward area of Houston, Texas, have achieved a remarkable milestone in their academic journey by simultaneously graduating from Lamar University with Master’s degrees in Speech-Language Pathology. Their accomplishment is especially noteworthy in a profession where only about 3 percent of practitioners are African American women.

The 24-year-old twins attribute their success to their parents, Michael and Sarah, who instilled in them a deep desire for education and continuously encouraged their pursuit of knowledge. Their academic journey began with high honors when, as teenagers, Keyara and Teyara graduated from E.L. Furr High School, securing a place in the top 10 percent of their graduating class. Subsequently, they attended Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas, where they obtained their Bachelor of Science degrees in Communication Sciences and Disorders of Oral Health with Summa Cum Laude and Magna Cum Laude distinctions.

The twins actively participated in extracurricular activities, including various organizations like CAID and SOCS, which are dedicated to speech and hearing sciences. When asked why they chose Speech-Language Pathology as their major, Keyara and Teyara emphasized their dedication to helping others and serving their communities, emphasizing their fascination with communication difficulties.

Keyara is employed at Eastview Healthcare and Rehabilitation, while Teyara works at Copperfield Healthcare and Rehabilitation in the Houston area. Their roles involve assisting patients in nursing homes with speech, language, cognition, and swallowing difficulties.
