Two students of the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State, a male and female have been discovered dead in the sitting room of the male student residence.

Two students of the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State, have been discovered dead in the sitting room of the male student residence at the Federal Medical Centre Quarters.

The students, identified as Oladapo Yusuf, a 28-year-old from Osun State, and Aisha Abubakar, a 22-year-old from Lagos Street, Minna, were found lifeless on the floor with a plate of uneaten food next to them.

The discovery was made on Sunday morning when neighbors noticed their absence. Anonymous sources from the compound suggested that the students might have fallen victim to food poisoning, and that an autopsy could reveal the true cause of their demise.

Their bodies were laid to rest at 4pm on the same Sunday, following Islamic customs.

Niger State Police Command's spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, stating that leftover food and some tablets were discovered at the scene.

He stated, “On June 8, 2024, at about 15:30 hours, information was received that two lifeless bodies , a man identified as Mr Bam and an HND 1 female student of Federal Poly, Bida, were found dead in their lodge at ‘D’ Aliyu House, Kobbo, Bida."

"The DPO of B Division, Bida, led police operatives to the scene. The door to the room was forcefully opened and it was discovered that the bodies were lying dead on the floor in the sitting room. A left-over food and some tablets were discovered at the scene and were taken for medical analysis. There was no sign of struggle or any mark of violence observed on the bodies. The corpses were removed to the FMC Bida for autopsy. The incident is under investigation", he explained.
