Two students from Niger Delta University (NDU) in Bayelsa State have been apprehended following the alleged torture and sexual assault of a female student. The victim, whose identity remains protected for privacy reasons, was reportedly lured to an apartment by one of the suspects, identified as Godwin, where the harrowing incident occurred.

According to reports, Godwin had been courting the victim, convincing her to visit his apartment. However, upon arrival, she found his friends present, which made her uneasy. When Godwin began demanding sex, the victim refused, explaining that she had a boyfriend. Her rejection was met with threats, as the suspects warned her that she would be k!lled if she attempted to leave the premises.

The situation escalated when the victim, in a desperate attempt to seek help, tried to contact her brother who resides in Port Harcourt. The suspects allegedly seized her phone and used it to make a video call to her brother, forcing him to watch as they tortured his sister by burning her skin with cigarettes. They subsequently took turns to forcibly rape her.

Bayelsa State Police Command confirmed that two of the alleged culprits are now in custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend two others who are reportedly at large.

Authorities have assured the public that the investigation is ongoing and the suspects will face the full wrath of the law. Meanwhile, the victim is receiving medical care and support to recover from the traumatic experience.

The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many calling for swift justice and stricter measures to ensure the safety of students in higher institutions across Nigeria.
