Abdulganiyu Abdulrahman Akanbi has emerged as the overall best graduating student in the Department of Islamic Studies at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS). Akanbi’s remarkable academic journey culminated in a First Class degree, and his Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.96 sets a new record for excellence within the university
Reflecting on his academic journey, Abdulganiyu shared insights into his choice of Islamic Studies despite initially aspiring to study Law. "Islamic studies was not my original choice of study, but Law," he explained. "I had to change from Law to Political Science after a failed attempt to gain admission into the University of Ilorin in 2017." He further elaborated that his solid foundation in Islamic knowledge from an early age influenced his decision to pursue Islamic Studies.

Regarding his decision to enroll at UDUS, Abdulganiyu stated, "I chose the university because I believed it would align with my interests." He emphasized the importance of understanding Arabic in Islamic Studies, noting that while it is not compulsory in the Nigerian curriculum, proficiency in Arabic enhances one's mastery of the course.
Abdulganiyu addressed the significance of achieving a record-breaking CGPA of 4.96 in his university's history. "I feel elated and blessed by Allah," he expressed. "Being the greatest academic so far in my family, I and my family members feel the best and are still happy for the unique blessing."

When asked about the courses that prevented him from attaining a perfect CGPA of 5.0, Abdulganiyu cited challenges in specific subjects and embraced them as part of his academic journey. "Two courses prevented me from attaining a perfect CGPA of 5.0," he explained. "I sought the assistance of my seniors and lecturers on what to do and they advised me to accept it in good faith and try to improve in subsequent exams."
In expressing gratitude for his achievements, Abdulganiyu highlighted the support of his family, the conducive academic environment at UDUS, and the guidance of his lecturers and peers. He also emphasized the relevance of Islamic Studies in the labor market and Nigerian society, citing its comprehensive scope that encompasses various fields such as medicine, law, politics, governance, economics, and banking.
