UDUS Students’ Union Celebrates Debate Club and NACJ for National Victories
The Students’ Union Caretaker Committee (SU CTC) of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) has congratulated the UDUS Debate Club (UDC) and the National Association of Campus Journalists (NACJ-UDUS) for their exceptional performances at the two separate national events held this month.
Recall that the UDC emerged victorious at the Caliphate Debate competition held on the 1st of December, 2025 in Abuja, while NACJ-UDUS also dominated several categories at the Campus Journalism Awards held on the 6th of December also in Abuja
In a statement released on the 7th of December, 2025, by the Committee under the leadership of Comrade Tasiu Aminu, the chairman, commended the two student bodies for distinguishing themselves at the national level. According to the Union, the victories reaffirms the excellence and richness of the extra curricular activities that are practiced on the soil of UDUS.
The Union noted that the UDC not only clinched the championship trophy but also produced both the first and second best speakers of the competition. It added that the NACJ-UDUS also dominated several categories of the Campus Journalism Awards.
Speaking with a Digest Press Reporter, the Chairman, Tasiu Aminu explained that the Union considered it important to publicly acknowledge the students’ achievements because outstanding efforts from student bodies often go unnoticed by the university community. He said the Union has now taken it upon itself to celebrate any club or individual that brings honour to the institution.
He emphasized that the Debate Club and NACJ did not only represent their respective bodies but also projected the image of UDUS in a positive light on the national stage. According to him, their achievements represent a growing presence of UDUS in national competitions and reaffirm the quality of the university’s extracurricular development.
Aminu encouraged the students to remain committed to extracurricular activities, assuring them that the Union is ready to support any club facing challenges within or outside the campus. He added that the Debate Club and the NACJ groups in the institution, are important part of the Students’ Union and contribute significantly to the intellectual and social growth of the institution.
He further urged the students to approach extracurricular activities with consistency, discipline and genuine commitment, noting that skills are only developed through effort. He encouraged every student to join at least one activity that can sharpen their competence beyond the classroom.
The chairman also appealed to the university management to begin celebrating students who excel not only in extracurricular activities but also in academics. He noted that UDUS students consistently win national awards in journalism, debates and other fields, and should be duly recognized for raising the university’s profile at national and international levels.
