UI Professor Warns Against Cult Membership, Emphasizing Grievous Consequences

Prof. Helen Labeodan, Chairperson of the Anti-cultism Campaign Committee at the University of Ibadan Centre for Social Orientation (CenSo), has issued a stern warning to secondary school students regarding the severe consequences of cult membership.

During a sensitization visit to Ikolaba High School in Ibadan, Prof. Labeodan emphasized that joining a cult entails committing a crime, leading to grave legal repercussions. She underscored the various negative outcomes associated with cultism, including missing lectures, losing focus, engaging in illicit substance abuse, and the potential for violent clashes resulting in untimely deaths.

Prof. Labeodan urged students to carefully consider the dire consequences of cultism and to resist any attempts to lure them into such anti-social behaviors. She emphasized the importance of staying on the right path to achieve greatness and advised against engaging in activities that could derail their aspirations.

Other members of the campaign committee also counseled the students, encouraging them to prioritize their dreams and refrain from unlawful activities that could hinder their potential. The students were further advised to embrace positive values and abstain from behaviors contrary to their well-being and God-given purpose.

The sensitization session aimed to equip students with knowledge and awareness to make informed decisions, steering them away from the pitfalls of cultism and towards a path of fulfillment and success.
