The University of Ibadan (UI) has welcomed 3,749 new students for the 2023/2024 academic session. The matriculation ceremony, held yesterday, was conducted virtually due to current circumstances.

Candidates joined the ceremony online at 10 a.m., where the Vice-Chancellor, Professor K. O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, inaugurated the event and delivered a keynote address.

Dr. Victor T. Alabi from the Centre for Language Studies at Brown University, U.S.A., delivered an inspiring matriculation lecture titled “Harnessing the Giant in You for Giant Strides.”

During the ceremony, the Registrar, Mr. G. O. Saliu, administered the Matriculation Declaration/Oath to the new students, officially inducting them into the University of Ibadan community.

The virtual matriculation ceremony allowed the university to adhere to safety protocols while ensuring that the new students felt welcomed and part of the UI community from the start of their academic journey.
