Niger State Governor Gifts N200,000 Each to NYSC Corps Members, Budgets N5 Billion for New Camp
Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State announced a gift of N200,000 to each corps member of the 2024 Batch B Stream I posted to the state. This announcement was made during the swearing-in ceremony at the NYSC orientation camp in Paiko on Tuesday.
In a significant gesture to enhance the welfare of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State announced a gift of N200,000 to each corps member of the 2024 Batch B Stream I posted to the state. This announcement was made during the swearing-in ceremony at the NYSC orientation camp in Paiko on Tuesday.
In addition to the monetary bonus, the governor declared that the state government would commit N5 billion towards the construction of a permanent NYSC orientation camp in Niger State. This investment aims to provide a modern and comfortable facility for future batches of corps members.
“All corps members serving in Niger State today are entitled to a N200,000 bonus from Niger farms. So, each of you has N200,000; I understand you’re about 1,600. So we are going to credit your account with N200,000. This is to give you comfort to stay in Niger State,” Governor Bago stated. The governor also mentioned that 20 cows and a trailer load of rice would be provided to the corps members to ensure their comfort during their service year.
A statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Bologi Ibrahim, elaborated on the governor's plans. Besides the new camp and bonuses, the governor promised automatic employment for corps members in the medical field upon completing their service.
“While reassuring them that the state government will ensure the security and well-being of the corps members, the governor used the medium to call on them to key into his agricultural revolution in the state, adding that the state government will support anyone who is willing to engage in farming through Niger Foods Limited,” the statement added.
The swearing-in ceremony saw a total of 1,301 corps members take the oath of allegiance, administered by Justice Mariya Ismail, who represented the Chief Judge of Niger State, Justice Halima AbdulMalik.
Governor Bago's initiative is expected to significantly boost the morale of corps members and enhance their experience in Niger State. The substantial investment in the new NYSC camp and the generous bonuses reflect the state's commitment to the welfare and development of young Nigerians.
