“UI Ready to Deepen Collaborations with German Institutions,” says DVC

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, of the University of Ibadan, Professor Peter O. Olapegba, FNPA, fspsp, C.Psych, FSSAN, has said that the University of Ibadan has a rich relationship with Germany and is ready to deepen its collaborations with German institutions.

He made this statement on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, while receiving the Vice President. International Affairs, Sustainability and Campus Development of RPTU University Kaiserslautern-Landau, Professor Oliver Frör during a courtesy visit to the office of the Vice-Chancellor.

He disclosed that the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD Fellowship) in particular has impacted the university, stressing that the existing relationships with Germany form a basis for future partnerships.

The DVC said the university was not designed to exist in isolation, therefore, acknowledged the importance of strategic collaborations, while commending institutions in Germany for such partnerships.

Professor Olapegba stated that collaboration is an opportunity to build institutional capacity, not just to benefit individuals, affirming that the relationship with RPTU University Kaiserslautern-Landau will be mutually benefitting.

He noted that the University of Ibadan has a significant crop of academics and researchers, who can drive the collaboration, restating that it will enable the development of stronger institutions, 

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor reiterated that UI was ready to explore opportunities with RPTU University Kaiserslautern-Landau and drive such to improve its international ranking.

Professor Oliver Frör had earlier disclosed that students of the University of Ibadan have improved massively in ongoing collaborations, especially those who have visited Germany.

He disclosed that his visit was to seek possible collaborations between UI and his institution, affirming that University of Ibadan has Departments that align with the programmes of RPTU University Kaiserslautern-Landau.

He added that UI academic programmes match the profile of his university and hoped for an efffective institutional collaboration.

Professor Frör reiterated that Nigerian students in Germany have a good reputation, that it was gratifying for him to visit the country and expressed the hope that outstanding students would be recommended for postgraduate scholarship programmes in RPTU University.

He stated that this could be done to enable them to give back to strengthening UI’s academic framework in their respective academic units. 

The Vice President proposed the development of a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize the partnership. 

Professor Oliver Frör was accompanied on the visit by Mr. Komivi Mawusime Lasmothey, Progamme Officer, DAAD Regional Office, Accra, Ghana, Head of the Department of European Studies, Faculty of Arts Professor Amos Iyiola, Ms. Charlotte Meyn, a German/DAAD Lecturer in the Department and other faculty members.
