UI VC Advocates Deeper Relationships for Federal Universities with Alumni, Philanthropists

The Vice chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, emphasized the necessity for Federal Universities in Nigeria to strengthen their connections with alumni, benefactors, and philanthropists to ensure their sustainability amidst the limited financial resources provided by the government.

Speaking during a visit and the presentation of monetary support by the Club Twelve88 to four final year students from UI and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Professor Adebowale highlighted the inadequacy of government funding and the importance of external support.

The beneficiaries from UI include Samuel T. Adesina from the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Oyenike A. Akinsanmi from the Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, while those from OAU are Olamide M. Sanusi from the Department of Political Science and Fisayo D. Oladiran from the Department of Art & Social Science Education.

Professor Adebowale expressed gratitude for the donation, acknowledging its critical timing in the lives of the recipients, some of whom face significant financial challenges in meeting their educational expenses.

He urged the beneficiaries to utilize the funds wisely for their educational pursuits. The president of Club Twelve88, Abuja, Rear Admiral Amos Gbadejo Adedeji (Rtd), explained that the club's decision to support the students stemmed from its commitment to assisting indigent students and other needy individuals.

He disclosed plans to establish an annual donation to the Department of Computer Science in memory of his late wife, who was an alumna of the University of Ibadan, demonstrating the enduring impact of alumni support on educational institutions.
