UNIABUJA makes drug test compulsory for all students

Vice chancellor of the university, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, who announced the new policy, said that the measure is meant to rid the institution of drug abuse and eliminate other forms of social vices on the campus.

He equally warned that any student who fails to comply with the policy will be dropped from the university for that academic year.

Professor Na’Allah stated this in his message to the students of the university while marking his four years in office as the vice chancellor, stating that he will  resume a tour of the faculties, departments, centres and institutes of the university in his last year in office.

While thanking the students and staff for the support he has enjoyed from them over the years, the VC noted that on assumption of office he had sought to change attitudes, diversify staff and students as well as challenge and change the status quo.

This move, according to him “brought serious inconveniences to many, while some even sought to resist the changes most vehemently yet many cooperated and worked along the hardship with a belief in God’s support to lead them to a new height.”

He attributed every success achieved in the last four years to the members of the management team. “They were the result of your hardwork and perseverance, while all the failures recorded over those four years are squarely on my shoulders. I choose to bear them all.”

The VC stated that his desire is to give the university a World Class status, promising that any obstacle on his way to achieving this would be crushed.

He implored members of the teaching staff to endeavour to take their classes by themselves, rather than sending representatives who end up demanding bribes and insulting the decency of the students.

He also charged them with releasing students’ grades promptly and within the approved academic calendar.

He disclosed that the university had been providing continuous capacity training and had developed both the staff and students through the Centre for Sponsored Projects, Centre for Innovation in Teaching and Research, Centre for Undergraduate Research, Computer Based Test Unit, Internship and Linkages Services Unit, among others.

Na’Allah pledged that for as long as he remains the vice chancellor of the institution, its academic calendar would be the most regular and productive in the Nigerian university system.
