UniAbuja Senate Elects Professors Kolawole and Waziri to Vice-Chancellor Selection Board

The Senate of the University of Abuja has elected Professor Gboyega Kolawole of the Department of English and Professor Kasim Waziri of the Department of Public Law as its representatives on the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board for the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor.

The Senate of the University of Abuja has elected Professor Gboyega Kolawole of the Department of English and Professor Kasim Waziri of the Department of Public Law as its representatives on the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board for the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor.

The election, which took place during an extraordinary Senate meeting held on the University’s Main Campus, saw the two professors emerge victorious in a keenly contested process. Other contenders included Professor Rosemary Udeozor of the Department of Educational Management, Professor Uwakwe Abugu of the Department of Private and Property Law, and Professor Salamatu Machunga of the Department of Microbiology.

According to the University of Abuja Act, the two elected members will join the Pro-Chancellor and two representatives of the Governing Council on the Selection Board, which is charged with recommending qualified candidates for the position of Vice-Chancellor.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mathew Adamu, who presided over the meeting, congratulated the newly elected members and urged them to uphold fairness, transparency, and integrity in the discharge of their duties. He also commended members of the Senate for their cooperation and the smooth conduct of the election.

Professor Kolawole is a scholar of folklore and comparative literature, while Professor Waziri is a professor of law with specialization in intellectual property and competition law.
