UNICAL Marks 4th Anniversary of Prof. Florence Obi’s Leadership, Highlights Achievements
The University of Calabar (UNICAL) celebrated the 4th anniversary of Prof. Florence Obi’s tenure as Vice Chancellor with a presentation of her administration’s achievements at the International Conference Centre.

Prof. Obi outlined key milestones achieved under her leadership and reiterated her commitment to driving the institution’s progress.
Prof. Obi emphasized significant advancements, including improved result management, strengthened research collaborations that secured grants, scholarships for outstanding students, and recognition of diligent staff. She highlighted infrastructure developments such as the establishment of a fire service station, acquisition of a new fire truck, completion of abandoned projects, and the acceleration of the solar farm project. She also noted achievements in ensuring timely graduation, maintaining a stable academic calendar, and enhancing campus security.
She commended researchers for positively promoting the institution and encouraged lecturers to submit fundable research proposals to attract additional grants. Prof. Obi expressed her gratitude to the Governing Council, staff, students, and the university community for their support in achieving these milestones.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, DIG Udom Ekpoudom (Rtd), praised Prof. Obi for her transparency and transformative leadership. The National President of the UNICAL Alumni Association, Barr. Paul Eshiemomoh, also commended her achievements, particularly her efforts in reshaping the institution's academic and structural landscape.
The event featured the presentation of awards and scholarships to deserving students as a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to rewarding excellence.
