UNICAL Student Union Government Suspends Three Principal Officers Pending Investigation
The Student Union Government (SUG) Senate of the University of Calabar has announced the suspension of three principal officers of the 12th Cohesive Senate as an interim measure pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation.
The Student Union Government (SUG) Senate of the University of Calabar has announced the suspension of three principal officers of the 12th Cohesive Senate as an interim measure pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation.
The announcement, contained in a notice dated 12th November 2024 and signed by Senate President Ogar Edwin Elaunire, identified the affected officers as the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Egbegi Uchechukwu Pascaline, the Scribe of the Senate, Sen. Johnson Osaminen Abang, and the Sergeant-at-Arms, Sen. Eze Chukwuebuka Stephen.

According to the statement, the suspension is temporary and intended to ensure a fair, transparent, and unbiased investigative process into allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of power, and negligence.
To maintain continuity in Senate operations, the following senators have been appointed in acting capacities:
- Sen. Emmanuel Ihuonam Goodnews – Acting Deputy Senate President
- Sen. Enyiofem Eta Eta – Acting Scribe of the Senate
- High Chief Sen. Bassey Echu – Acting Sergeant-at-Arms
Senate President Ogar Edwin Elaunire called on all members of the SUG and the wider student body to cooperate with the acting officers and the investigation committee, stressing that the suspension is a procedural measure and does not imply guilt on the part of the suspended officers.
The Senate reiterated its commitment to maintaining integrity and accountability in student governance while the investigation proceeds.
